Recognised Prior Learning

For the Already Experienced Coach

graduate-level1

advanced-pro-level2

RPL means Recognised Prior Learning (sometimes called RCC – Recognition of Current Competencies). To apply for RPL, you must be confident you have had suitable prior coaching experience to ‘bypass’ having to complete an on-court training course in order to obtain one of the ATPCA Levels of Qualification. It’s a “fast track” qualification solution to those who can provide sufficient evidence of having already achieved most, if not all the course learning outcomes as a result of their prior coaching experiences. There are a number of ways of substantiating your current skills. The “background evidence” could include any combination of the following… a written description of your related work or life experience including time you have already been coaching tennis, any coach training course already undertaken, your playing background, and your possible involvement with other education activities (for example as a teacher of any skill or coach of another sport).

Please make sure to include contact numbers (of other coaches or organisations worked for etc.) if possible –otherwise a Stat Dec may be required. Once this is submitted to Head Office, consideration is given as to whether or not any further information is required or any on-court assessment or theory exam needed.

In order to secure an RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) for any Level of Qualification with ATPCA, applicants should first review the RPL eligibility criteria for each Qualification. Applicants must provide all necessary information and evidence of their achievement of the below, in order for the RPL Assessment Committee to successfully award a Qualification via RPL.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • At least ITN6 level of playing standard (middle intermediate competition standard).
  • Minimum 4 years on court assistant coaching experience.

  • Must possess the ability to coach players of all ages from beginner to intermediate, mid competition levels.

Please Note:

  1. This is just a guide and is in no way absolute – each RPL is assessed on a case by case basis. For further information or guidance on submitting your Application, please contact ATPCA head office direct, on (02) 9982 2000 – alternatively just submit you’re RPL Enquiry and a member of staff with is in touch to assist you further.
  2. It is strongly preferred that RPL Applications complete and submit a physical copy of the ATPCA Application form, as opposed to the online form. Main reason is that it allows a much more room to write and list your experience and also has the ability for you (a coach on your behalf) to complete an Assessor’s Declaration (page 6).
